Right before Bill Graham opened the Fillmore East in 1968, he met a lighting and effects artist named Joshua White. White had recently collaborated with friend Glenn McKay to form The Joshua Light Show, during which the artists used a projector to cast light through colored oil and water.
This technique was to become the psychedelic backdrop of not only the Fillmore East shows, but the entire 1960s rock and roll experience. From September 13th-16, The Joshua Light Show will return to the stage at NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, collaborating with a new generation of experimental musicians in 5 uniquely curated shows. Tickets are on sale now. Don’t miss this rare appearance!
